Who is Gurudev?
Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is the founder of The Art of Living. In 1981 he started this educational and humanitarian organization in southern India. Today its programs run in 182 countries, and more than a million volunteers take part in education, environmental, disaster-relief and peace work.
He teaches simple tools, such as breathing and meditation, for settling the mind. He often says that peace in the world begins with peace in the individual.
He has addressed audiences at the United Nations, the European Union and the World Economic Forum in Davos, and in 2016 the Government of India awarded him the Padma Vibhushan, one of India's highest civilian honors.
Who is this evening for?
You do not need any background. You do not have to know anything about spirituality, and you do not have to have meditated before.
Many people first meet Gurudev through a plain, friendly idea: measure your success by how often you smile. His gatherings tend to hold laughter and silence together. Some people come out of curiosity. Some come because they are tired and want to sit quietly for an evening.
